4 Upcoming Electric Cars by Tata in 2024

1. Tata Harrier EV

Tata Harrier EV

It is an SUV electric car. Tata stated that the Harrier EV would be based on the Gen2 platform with an AWD configuration. It is expected to have two motors, and the Gen2 platform is used for a large battery size and motor output. It is bigger than the Nexon EV. The technical details, battery capacity, and motor output of the car have not been divulged yet.

The features of the Tata Harrier EV include a high level of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), six airbags, a panoramic sunroof, smartphone integration, etc. It includes all the smart features, but in size, it is a muscular car.

The starting expected price of this car is Rs 30 lakh. It would launch in the second quarter of 2024. It is expected to be available in three variants, such as the Harrier EV XM, the Harrier EV XZ, and the Harrier EV XZ Lux.

2. Tata Curvv EV

It is a new-generation electric car, and its design is like a coupe SUV. The car is supposed to have a large battery, but its capacity has not been disclosed yet. It is expected to be built on Tata’s Gen2 platform, and its claimed range is up to 500 km. 

The exterior of the Tata Curvv EV includes LED DRLs, headlights, taillights, a panoramic sunroof, and a moonroof. It has a seating capacity of five people. Its front brakes are disc-type.

In the interior, it is expected to come with amenities such as a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, ventilated front seats, a glass roof, a touch-enabled climate control panel, etc. 

It is likely to have the safety features of six airbags, an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and an adaptive cruise control.

The MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric car are the competitors of the Tata Curvv electric car.

It is expected to launch with a price tag of Rs. 18–20 lakh (ex-showroom) by March 2024.

3. Tata Punch EV

Tata Punch EV is a second-generation electric SUV. Its design is taken from the Tata Nexon EV.

In the exterior, like most of the EVs, at the front, it closes off the grill portion, and it has an elongated LED DRL bar. It is the first EV from Tata that has a charging socket at the front and provides frunk space. On the downside, it includes a main headlamp cluster with triangular projector LED headlights and foglamps. The Tata Punch EV underpins 16-inch-alloy wheels and has disc brakes on all four wheels.

The interior of the Tata Punch EV has an illuminated two-spoke steering wheel and leatherette upholstery. It also offers a 10.25-inch digital instrumental cluster.

The Punch EV is equipped with several safety features, such as six airbags, an anti-lock braking system, three-point seat belts, ISOFIX mounts with SOS functions, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. Additionally, it includes a 360-degree camera, a wireless charger, cruise control, and a sunroof. It has an advanced feature of the new Arcade.ev app, which offers superior connectivity with over-the-air updates.

It is available in two battery packs: 25 kWh (medium range) and 35 kWh (long range). The 25kWh battery pack generates 82 PS power and 114 Nm of torque, which supports the car to reach 110 km/h of top speed, whereas the 35kWh battery pack produces 122 PS power and 190 Nm of torque, offering a top speed of 1400 km/h. The medium-range battery pack has a claimed range of 315 km, but the long-range battery offers 421 km of claimed range.

The medium-range and long-range battery packs take 56 minutes to juice up the battery by 10–80% with a 50 kW DC fast charger, whereas with a 7.2 kW AC charger, the medium-range battery takes 3.6 hours and the long-range battery takes 5 hours to juice up the battery. With a 3.3Kw AC charger, the 25kWh takes 9.4 hours and the 35kWh takes 13.5 hours to charge the batteries 10–100%.

Tata showcased that the Punch EV is based on the Acti.EV platform, which enhances the space efficiency, performance, technology, and modularity of the EV. This architecture even upholds 5G connectivity and vehicle-to-vehicle charging.

Tata has launched the Tata Punch EV on January 17, 2024, with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 10.99–Rs. 14.49 lakh. It is a budget-segment electric car loaded with several features. It is available in five variants, such as smart, smart plus, adventure, empowered, and empowered plus (price may vary accordingly).

4. Tata Safari EV

The design language of the Tata Safari EV is expected to be like that of the Tata Harrier EV. It is expected to be a seven-seater electric car. There is not much information about the battery pack of the EV, but being a big SUV car, it is expected to have a battery pack of 60–70 kWh.

The interior of the car will have an infotainment system, an instrument cluster, level-1 ADAS features, and a lighting package.

Tata has stated that, like the Harrier EV, it would also have features of AWD (all-wheel drive) and Gen2 architecture. The AWD system supports two motors, one on the front axile and the other on the rear axile. It has not been tested yet for a crash test rating.

It competes with the Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector Plus.

The car is expected to launch by the end of 2024, with an expected price range of Rs. 23 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh. The car may be available in three variants, such as the XM, XZ, and XZ+.
